Set up SocratiCode with OpenAI Codex

Install the SocratiCode Codex plugin, confirm the bundled MCP server, index one project, and run a first codebase search.

What you need

The default SocratiCode stack uses local Qdrant and Ollama.

Install the plugin

Add the SocratiCode marketplace and install its plugin:

codex plugin marketplace add giancarloerra/socraticode --ref main
codex plugin add socraticode@socraticode

Start a new Codex task or CLI session in the project. Confirm the SocratiCode tools are available and call codebase_status to check that the server responds.

The plugin already bundles the MCP server. Do not add a second standalone SocratiCode MCP registration.

Index and verify one project

Ask Codex to run codebase_index for the current project. Check codebase_status until indexing completes, then use codebase_search for a known function or feature.

Open one returned source location and confirm it belongs to the expected project. The default watcher handles later file changes while the process is running.

Update the plugin

After a plugin release, run:

codex plugin marketplace upgrade socraticode
codex plugin add socraticode@socraticode

Start a new task or CLI session after updating.

For sensitive projects, review source-code boundaries before the first index. For repositories linked into one system, read cross-repository context.
